In ancient times gurus used to be very knowledgeable people who used to teach the rich and the royal. Today the meaning of guru has come to imply people who are experts in their fields, who are better than their peers. In the world of finance, people who specialise in investments and a variety of other advice and financial matters are called financial gurus. They basically pass on their knowledge to people who require this knowledge, just like the days of old where the gurus passed on knowledge to their pupils.

In the beginning, financial gurus were hired by newspapers and magazines to offer financial advice to their readers. They wrote columns and articles and even answered questions that the readers would address. Gradually as the trend picked up, financial gurus were sought by television channels and radio stations where they could appear live and interact with viewers and even pass on advice about the investment market. As the Internet developed, financial gurus were also sought by websites on the internet. In fact some of them even have their own websites where viewers can interact with then through email.

The trend of following financial gurus has picked up, even though they have a disclaimer stating that they would not be responsible for any losses incurred by the viewer for following their advice. Financial gurus like Peter Lynch are extremely famous because the advice they have passed on has been found to be very beneficial to the viewer.

These gurus do a thorough analysis of the market and its trends. They look at the strengths and weaknesses of a company and then give their advice. Rather than outlining concrete steps they prefer to simply advice the viewer so that the onus of the decision lies with the viewer. However, care must be taken while following the advice of newer financial gurus as many fake gurus are trying to cash in on the trend.
