All About Personal Investing In America

May 19, 2006 | In: Property Investing

Personal investing in America is one of the most secure means of international investing that a person can make. The options for CD’s, savings accounts and money market funds make up 28% of American investments because they are so secure and relatively risk free. Mutual funds also make up about 27% of the personal investing in America and are gaining popularity every year.

As far as some of the more risky investments, individual stock investments make up 26% of the investments in America along with bond mutual funds at 11% and individual bonds at 8%. Americans have a deep sense of security in their own domestic investing options which is partly the reason why so much financial advice is often paid for by Americans.

The percentage of investors who seek financial advice from American stockbrokers amounts to almost 27% of the total investor population. Financial planners are also sought out by close to 23% of all investors and many other professionals such as accountants, bankers and lawyers are often consulted for their financial expertise.

These numbers are high because personal investing in America is done by a high percentage of investors with large amounts in financial holdings. In fact 59% of Americans have investments that are between $100,000-$249,999 in outside holdings. This means that their investments are separate from their checking or savings accounts.

If we look at the percentages of people in the US who are investing their money, we know that age also has a lot to do with the level of investment.

The primary age groups of personal investors in America are in the age bracket of 30-49 years of age. 50-64 year old investors make up the second largest bracket at 32%. With such a large percentage of Americans investing in their own countries financial future, it is no wonder America is one of the greatest investments on the planet today.
