At the end of that term, the bank returns your money plus a specific amount of interest. Also in the realm of basic investments are checking accounts that earn interest and money market accounts. Although most people know and understand what a checking account is, many are unaware of money market accounts. Money market accounts earn a higher interest rate, typically, than savings accounts and even some C.D.’s. Money deposited into these accounts is invested by banks, which allows for a greater return.
