In an ocean of investment opportunities the ultimate goal is to maximize investment growth while maintaining as much security as possible; unfortunately, this is not always attainable. Oftentimes, you are forced to forego one for the other. However, if growth is top on your list, you are in luck with several investments.
The most obvious choice in investment growth is the stock market. While the market has constant fluctuations, there has been consistent growth on a long term basis – at roughly a ten to twelve percent rate of return. You certainly will not be getting that kind of return from a C.D.
As great as the stock market may be, you are still at incredible risk of a crash. For this reason, many choose to access the market through mutual funds that diversify their investment dollars and therefore lower the risk involved. Unfortunately, the price that is paid is often a lower growth of their investment.
Another incredible investment area, as far as growth is concerned, is real estate.
While not quite as much boom as the stock market, real estate has offered steady growth for years. If accessing special deals, such as tax lien properties or foreclosures, the return may be phenomenal. If going the more traditional route, a very solid return of six percent is average.
Another major advantage real estate has is the relative stability of the market. While there are peaks and troughs, as in any market, real property tends to maintain its value better than paper investments.
Remember the “dot com crash”?? The people that lost everything certainly remember it. Real estate, on the other hand, rarely depreciates and, to the best of anyone’s knowledge, has never become a useless commodity overnight. While there was what is referred to as a crash in the mid 80’s, it shadows in comparison to the more notorious stock market crashes.
However, if growth is of utmost importance, obviously savings accounts, C.D. and even money market accounts may be of little use to the daring investor that yearns for more.
