With all the options on the internet, where do you find the best information on finances and investment? Also, how do you tell if one investment site is any better than the next one?

The first thing you should look at, and this goes for evaluating any information is the accuracy of grammar, punctuation, and spelling. This may sound odd, but extreme errors in grammar may be a red flag you are taking advice from (for lack of a better word) an idiot. Also, a lot of online scams have been linked to foreign swindlers whose scam may have been avoided simply by paying attention (and utilizing common sense).

A similar note: look for things that just do not sound right. Verify the information you read; then, you can be sure of the accuracy. With finances, do not take one person’s word unless they have proven themselves and their track record to you.

As with financial advisor and investment companies, the big names tend to carry more credibility. Not to say there are no crooks at the big companies or there are always crooks at the little companies – but people tend to feel safer with stable, successful company. Often, scam companies change names constantly to avoid being caught.

Another factor to consider in investment sites is the frequency the information is updated. Obviously, old information is almost useless in the investment world. Especially if you stay abreast the current news and financial trends, advanced information is of great importance.

The most important issue to take into account is your knowledge level and your financial interests. An advanced site would only baffle a beginner. Likewise, if you are interested in one area of investment, a site focusing on another area would probably bore you to tears. Consider what you are looking for in an investment site; that may very well be the determining factor in which site is best.
