Monique F. Leroux named Personality of the financial year

President and CEO of Desjardins Group won first place in the Top 25 of the financial industry in Quebec in 2011, awarded by Finance and Investment.
Monique F. Leroux has earned this distinction through the good results recorded by Desjardins, the reorganization of the cooperative movement she led a good and because of the many honors which were awarded in 2011.
Indeed, Desjardins ranks 20th of 50 financial institutions the safest in the world and 4th in North America. In addition, the cooperative has the best capitalization ratio of the Canadian banking industry and is in the top decile of the thousand largest banks in the world.
Leroux was also personally honored by receiving the Woodrow Wilson Award, awarded by the Smithsonian Institute in Washington because of his dedication to the common cause, in addition to being appointed to the Advisory Committee of the United Nations International Year of cooperatives.
In the second place in the Top 25, we find the President and CEO of National Bank, Louis Vachon, followed by Jean-Guy Desjardins, Chairman, CEO and Chief Investment Officer of Fiera Sceptre. The two businessmen are followed by Bernard Dorval, Acting Chair TD Canada Trust until his retirement in January 2012, and Joseph Iannicelli, outgoing president of the Standard Life Assurance Company of Canada.
In addition Leroux, five other women are among the top: Christiane Bergevin, Desjardins Group; Annie Blouin, RBC Dexia; Monique Gravel, CIBC Wood Gundy; Christine Marchildon, TD Canada Trust and Micheline Martin, RBC Royal Bank .
This year’s Top 25 in the formula has changed. The five persons of the year are part of a track record while the 20 other winners are not numbered, but listed in alphabetical order.
The Top 25 was established by a jury of editors and publishers of TC Media, our publishing group, and three veterans of the financial industry. It was composed of Sylvain Bédard, Group Finance Editor, Christian Benoit Lapointe, editor of Finance and Investment; Andrée Corriveau, President of the Association of Financial Women of Québec; François Joly, financial administrator and personality of the year 2005, Richard Joly, president and CEO of International Leaders and Stéphane Paquet, editor of The Business Group.
The prize was awarded to Monique F. Leroux Gala Personality fiscal 2011, which was held Feb. 7 at St. James Club, before an audience of senior executives in the financial industry in Quebec.
