Most customers want to use their refund to pay debt or invest, according to a survey of BMO Harris Private Banking.

Thus, 56% of Canadians want their refund or use to pay bills and credit card balances, or to invest.

Men are more likely than women to take their refund to invest in a registered retirement savings plans. In all, 24% of the former have this intention, compared to 17% of the latter.

According to the survey, 9% of survey respondents use their refund to travel and acquire hobby, while a similar proportion use the money for home improvements. “According to the Canada Revenue Agency, the average tax refund has exceeded $ 1 400 for the 2008 tax year,” said BMO in a statement.

Only half of Quebecers consistently repay their entire credit card balance according to a CROP survey conducted on behalf of JeComprends.ca.

In fact, over one third of survey respondents have not used any pay each month. While 12% say they never repay all their debts on their credit cards, 20% said they rarely do.

If Quebecers who quickly repay their credit card balances are cutting borrowing costs, there are still negative consequences.
