Never a more loaded question has been asked than “What are the best investment options?” Why would that be a loaded question? The reason behind this is the nature of the question; the answer is one based almost entirely on opinion. After asking 100 people, you may very well end up with 100 different answers, especially considering the numerous forms of investments available. Another reason is the answer to this question may be different considering the circumstances of the person involved. Age, income and goals of the investor are all factors that shape and mold what the best options may include. However, there are a few great investment options for almost any situation.

Real estate is an investment area which has proven the test of time. Perhaps one reason is the limited amount of the commodity – there is not exactly extra land sprouting up anywhere. Regardless of the reason, real property has almost exclusively increased in value over the years (with a few exceptions, of course).

Another benefit of investing in real estate is the ability to use leverage. By only spending $20,000 you may be able to secure a $100,000 piece of property; therefore, if the property then increased in value to $110,000, you would have made a return of 50% (the amount of the increase divided by the money invested). Few other investment options afford this opportunity.

Investing in index funds is also a great investment idea. Basically, index funds are mutual funds that buy the best performing stocks. Well, duh!!! No one ever thought of this before?! So, you have the best of both worlds: you have diversification, which equals safety to a lot of people but you also have the highest performing stocks in the market. However, if you have a low tolerance level (maybe you are retiring in a couple of years), perhaps you should stay away from stocks all together or consider balancing them out with bonds.
